Gloria Loughman Comes to Bali Retreat

18 - 29 May, 2026

ADVENTURE OF A LIFETIME

This is a fully guided tour with Jacky as your host and Gloria Loughman as your Tutor.

Gloria has been teaching patchwork classes for many years and really enjoys sharing her knowledge and skills with others.
Gloria challenges her students to design their own quilts but is also happy to provide patterns for those less confident. Gloria’s classes have proved to be very popular with lots of students coming back for a second or third class. She has taught extensively in Australia and in more than 20 countries overseas.
On the retreat in Bali, Gloria will be teaching you her “Tiling Technique” to make a lovely tropical scene – making the most of the beautiful batiks available in the Wacky Jacky’s shop.

A note from Gloria….
One of my most popular classes over recent years has been 'Light up your Landscape'. I have made many quilts using these tiling techniques. I love the way that using small tiles of colour and texture add a feeling of light and radiance to the design. Every quilt made by students in this workshop has been beautiful and unique. It is an effective and useful technique that you can incorporate in to your own quilt making to help create perspective and movement.

If you have never joined Gloria in one of her amazing classes this one's for you. Positions are strictly limited.

Exclusion

Flying into Bali

Return flights from your home country to Bali are not included in this retreat.

Please be aware that the first day of your retreat and the last day of your retreat are travel days. For example, if a retreat starts on 4 May to 16 May, you have to fly in on 4 May, and 16 May is the day you fly out.

When booking, please aim to land in Bali early afternoon on your first day, and exit Bali in the early evening / late night on the last day.

If you wish to fly in earlier we will pick you up from the airport on your arrival and bring you to the hotel in Candidasa.

Once you know your flight times, let me know and we can work from there.

What You Need to Bring

Extra Luggage

Since shopping is guaranteed, you need lots of space in the luggage! 😜

For the same reason, I also suggest you to get extra baggage for your flight back home, as airlines can be strict with their luggage regulation.

However, if it still exceeds, we can help arrange shipping at your own cost.

Patterns and Samples

Bring your favourite patterns for quilting/any textile projects so you can preplan your fabric shopping.

Since we also offer tailoring services, you can also bring your favourite dress/tops/bottoms as samples for our tailors.

Cash and Cards

- You will need spending money for lunch, dinners, drinks, souvenirs, optional tours and shopping days etc.

- Though not all, most places accept cards in Bali (like in my shop and cafe). I suggest bringing a little bit of cash (AUD$1000) and converting in Bali International Airport or on arrrival into Candidasa, or you can lend some from me to be paid back later. Plenty of money changers in Candidasa.

- Avoid converting it in the Australian airport – as exchange rate is low.

Suggested Attires

¾ pants and T-shirts or knee-length dresses are suitable.

Bathers for swimming.

Flip-flops and good walking shoes.

Last but not least, your sunscreen.

Sense of Humour

Sense of humour and easygoing approach to the Balinese people as they are one of the friendliest people on earth and really like to talk to guests.
